Descriptif du projet
Recycle Moi is the first natural and 100% biodegradable sanitary napkins from Mauritius. They are made of natural bamboo and corn fiber. Upon disposal, the pads biodegrade within 12-18 months.
Recycle Moi is also a personal commitment to work towards eliminating menstruation taboos from my society while at the same time advocating for a clean environment. Plastic pads are not only harmful for women’s health but also have negative consequences on the environment. Sanitary waste disposal is becoming a major problem in Mauritius as the regular plastic pads are not biodegradable and take more than 120 years to break down.
A woman bleeds for around 3000 days in her life time. Crazy cramps, headaches, nausea, rashes, mood swings and allergies from plastic pads, so much to endure monthly and yet it’s an issue that’s rarely discussed and on a few occasions, it’s only discussed behind closed doors. There has been an increasing effort worldwide to empower, educate, and engage country leaders, communities, families, and teenage girls and boys about menstruation.
I am looking forward to support and partnership to making sure that Recycle Moi changes lives of girls and women and educates men about menstrual issues in Mauritius and across the African continent.
